CAMBODIAN RELIGION
The official religion of Cambodia is Theravada Buddhism, which is also practiced in neighboring Laos, Thailand, Burma, and Sri Lanka. Theravada Buddhism was introduced into Cambodia in the 12th century by King Jayavaman VII. The sight of saffron-robed monks is common throughout the Kingdom and almost every village has a Buddhism temple as a dominant feature of daily life. There are also 500,000 Muslims in Cambodia and just over 60,000 Christians.
The majority of Cambodia are Buddhist discipline Thervada and the school Hinayana of Bouddhisme which appeared in Kampuchea between 13th and 14 century and which became the religion of state until 1975. A minority is Musulmane, Chams.
